Radiative transfer in planetary atmospheres of celestial bodies, including (exo)planets and moons

RT-MOLEXO stands for "Radiative transfer in planetary atmospheres of celestial bodies, including (exo)planets and moons". The project is a joint investigation between BIRA-IASB and UCLouvain in the frame of the FEDtWIN program. Based on the expertise of both partners, laboratory measurements are carried out to be useful and used for planetary applications.

The RT-MOLEXO project adopts an interdisciplinary scientific approach. The objective of this research profile is to foster the collaboration between atmospheric and laboratory measurements by identifying the area of improvements for molecular databases, in particular concerning CIAs, bearing in mind representative scenarios on other planets. The synergy between laboratory high-resolution molecular spectroscopy and radiative transfer theory is of prime importance to better understand the chemical and physical processes at play in planetary atmospheres. Drawing on this, Prof. C. Lauzin at NAPS, UCLouvain and Dr. S. Robert, at BIRA-IASB decided to join their forces.
